Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam, and Port Moody comprise the Tri-Cities area. Coquitlam is the largest of the 3, with a population of over 120,000 people. Port Coquitlam currently houses just over 55,000. The name “Coquitlam” came from a Salish Tribal name which means “small red salmon”. Only a quarter of the residents in Coquitlam actually work in the city, the rest commute to Vancouver or to other municipalities. The City is connected to the West Coast Express, which runs from Mission to downtown Vancouver, and in 2014 will join into the skytrain network with the opening of the new Evergreen line station at Coquitlam Centre.
